A Tribute to Calvin & Hobbes comics
Ink on paper, Digital ink
Calvin & Hobbes comic strips, created and illustrated by Bill Watterson between the years of 1985 and 1995, was a huge support for my mind and spirit. Every time I fell down, I just read some adventures of Calvin and his tiger, and fell right as rain. Calvin & Hobbes immediately became an all-time classic in my comic collection, and basically not a day goes without reading a strip of the comic.
Personally I am more than pleased that Mr.Watterson did not give up and decided not to sell the whole thing, letting it become commercialised. As he says: "I believe licensing usually cheapens the original creation." I agree. And thank God it stayed at that. I guess we would be really sad if the same as with the poor Garfield&Co happend.
So, why did I do the animation? Because of two reasons: One, to pay tribute to one of the coolest cartoonist out there. And two, because Mr. Watterson once said it is impossible to convert his creation into an animation with feeling, too keep the comic style. "I will convince you otherwise," I thought to myself, and did it as one time project. With all respects to Mr. Watterson.
